The Conference was a preeminent gathering of minds committed to improving access to safe and quality health for all in Africa. It brought together participants from the five (5) continents, including Ministers, government officials, health practitioners, scientists, researchers, media representatives, and civil society, among others. The Conference presented an opportunity to share best practices and promote collective action in a bid to establish a sovereign healthy policy in Africa.
Special focus was on: “Health and environment harm reduction: air quality, global warming, respiratory diseases”; “Food security in Africa and the world: what harm reduction?”; “Nutrition and health education: future South-South perspectives”; “Drinking water: continental investment and capital”; and “Risk reduction and tomorrow’s ecosystems: the African equation”.
The Conference underscored the pivotal role of sustainable development through African-driven south-south cooperation. Further, it reaffirmed that health sovereignty is the fundamental right of all African nations essential for ensuring the resilience of the continental health systems; and acknowledged that health harm reduction is a holistic approach that necessitates addressing the root causes of health challenges.
